Making retail displays which stand the test of time
To be cost-effective and truly useful, display units within retail environments must be able to cope with a great deal of wear and tear; and often also need to carry heavy stock for long periods of time. Find out how we created the perfect product for our client Cotton Traders.
The Brief
Clothing company Cotton Traders required an extremely strong retail display unit that would last in stores for up to 12 months.
Challenge
Our client had struggled to obtain a free standing display unit (FSDU) of adequate strength and overall quality. We were shown a correx sample that was clearly not up to the task – so suggested a strengthened corrugated design instead. However, our client wanted a product that was even more robust.
Solution
After careful consideration, our expert FSDU team recommended the use of Re-board – a 10mm-thick, rigid paperboard with a deeply fluted core. Despite its exceptional strength, it is lightweight and therefore still ideal for widespread retail use. The Cotton Traders team agreed with our choice and we started work to produce 140 units, including: – Design conception, including initial production of a full-size prototype, which was quickly approved – Printing the brand artwork directly to the substrate (not litho-mounted), using our Inca Onset R50i – CAD cutting rather than die-cutting, due to the depth of the material (using our Esko XP) – Hand assembly by our in-house finishing team – Delivery to every store (120 locations)
Results
We completed all production, assembly and delivery to all locations within just four days. The final result was a two-shelf free standing display unit with a built-in header board, including: – A slotted, interlocking assembly design – meaning the units were assembled without tape or glue – Addition of a PVC pocket to the header board, so store staff could renew promotional offer sheets when needed – Edging strips to neaten up the edges of the substrate – Easily recyclable materials – Re-board is 100% recyclable via normal waste paper streams – Sufficient strength to carry heavy promotional items in-store on a long-term basis – Substantial dimensions of 900mm wide and 1500mm tall, making the FSDU suitable for a diversity of products
